Our days are spent caring for 120 cows, our growing family, and you our guests on our Century Family Farm in North Central Iowa.
Travel has always been a big part of our lives – both growing up and after meeting each other in college. Early in married life we spent a couple years living overseas. Our time spent traveling & living overseas has shaped who we are, how we look at the world, increased our compassion for others, and given us a deeper understanding of the world around us (although we still have a lot to learn & experience ourselves!).
We know that’s why you travel too – not to Escape but to Enrich your life and bring new Experiences to your Every day.
We are a working dairy farm, not a hobby farm. What does this mean? All of our family’s income comes from the dairy farm (and GuestBarn). This is our full-time job (and then some!)
Stick around long enough and you’ll find #DairymanDan playing guitar or piano IN THE BARN – we call it music therapy. Our 3 kids help keep Lynn’s schedule full.
Our freezer is always stocked with ice cream – because why not eat ice cream every day! Our cows’ milk is made into Prairie Farms’ cream cheese. Yum! All of our cows have names – and if a calf is born during your say – you’ll get to help name her!
Most of all we love knowing that each day we help feed over 8,500 people delicious dairy products! Instead of each of those families having a cow in the backyard, we care for their cows in our barn!
Our farm has been in Dan’s family for over 125 years. His grandparents still help when they can – even if it’s just a stroll through the barn to “check” on the cows.
Dan’s parents, Dave & Pam, are still an integral daily part of the farm. You’ll likely spot them around or meet them during your stay.
Rita the robot is our newest “family member” – she’s responsible for milking the 120 cows living in our barn. You can meet her on your Intro Tour. She started in 2015 when we built a new barn (and the GuestBarn) for our cows. After 3 years of living in the space ourselves we transformed it for you!
Questions are our favorite – if you’ve never been to a farm (or even if you have!) we want to know what you’re curious about! We’ve compiled at least some of the frequently asked questions on our Farm FAQ page so check those out!
The media loves new & unique ideas, and we’ve been honored to be featured in a variety of places like Iowa Public Radio and Des Moines’ WHO-TV!
Come experience New Adventures, Authentic Cows, and Comfy Beds at New Day Dairy’s GuestBarn – where you can #sleepwiththecows.
We truly enjoyed every moment and appreciate all of the time and effort by Dan and Lynn that went into making our stay a most memorable one. Details always make a difference, and there has been no detail left out. From the beautifully decorated GuestBarn with a cheery yet calming color palette, to a fully stocked kitchen, generous choices for a wonderful breakfast, observation windows, and informative tours, it’s all there! ~ Janet, Shell Rock, Iowa
